چکیده
caused by the larval form of an animal tapeworm of the genus Spirometra (1). The definite host is a carnivorous mammal, such as a dog or cat and intermediate hosts are a wide spectrum of vertebrates that include amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals (2). Humans are usually a paratenic host (3). The route of infection is ingestion of raw meat of snakes or frogs, or drinking contaminated water (3). The clinical finding of sparganosis is the presence of migrating subcutaneous nodules in the abdominal wall, scrotum, lower extremities, chest wall, breast and brain where the parasites cause seizure, headache, and paraplegia (4). Brain and breast sparganosis have been reported previously but only a J Korean Soc Radiol 2009;61:183-187

متن کاملA Case of Sparganosis That Presented as a Recurrent Pericardial Effusion
Sparganosis is caused by a larval tapeworm of the genus Spirometra, which commonly invades subcutaneous tissue, but less frequently invades muscle, intestines, spinal cord, and the peritoneopleural cavity. The authors managed a female patient who presented with a recurrent pericardiopleural effusion and peripheral eosinophilia. The anti-sparganum-specific IgG serum level was significantly highe...

The recent clinical image by Kumar and Mohan is very interesting1. In fact, the finding is not extremely uncommon in tropical countries. Based on our experience in Thailand, the prevalence is about 1/1000. An important consideration is the presumptive diagnosis of subcutaneous cysticercosis. Indeed, another important parasitosis that might present similar finding in chest radiography is spargan...
متن کاملA Case Report of Testicular Sparganosis Misdiagnosed as Testicular Tumor
Sparganosis is a parasitic infestation of human by plerocercoid larvae. Sparganum is usually reported to be found in the subcutaneous tissues as well as other organs, including scrotum. However, testicular sparganosis is extremely rare, because of strong capsule of tunica albuginea. An urban-living 54-yr-old Korean man presented with left scrotal pain for 6 yr. Both testes look normal physicall...

Sparganosis is a parasitic infestation that is caused by the sparganum, a plerocercoid larva of the tapeworm belonging to the genus Spirometra. While a carnivorous mammal such as a dog or cat is the final host, humans are an intermediate host. Humans accidentally acquire the sparganum either by drinking contaminated water with infected cyclops or by eating raw frogs and snakes (1). The sparganu...
